Pedestrian route along the Tagus path

Walking, the best way to follow the longest river in Portugal

The pedestrian path along the Tagus River has several alternatives, given the length of the river.

One of them is next to the Erges River, a  Tagus’ River tributary and one of the last wild rivers in Portugal. A circular pedestrian trail of moderate difficulty, with 11.4 km that runs through the Erges River valley. It has several points of interest, highlighting geology and avifauna.

Another alternative, located in the transition between Beira Baixa and Alentejo, is the International Tagus Natural Park , which has a very rich natural heritage due to its biodiversity and which still remains in its pure state. It is considered one of the most relevant in Europe. In this pedestrian path, hundreds of animal and plant species harmoniously coexist with traditional human nuclei. Here and there, there are rustic and almost uninhabited villages, but there are also renovated villages, with carefully maintained houses. All waiting to be  discovered by you.
