At Entroncamento, take the regional train that leaves you in Tomar, after seeing, from the train window, some of the typical aspects of places and parishes in the area.
The history of the city of Tomar dates back to prehistoric times according to archaeological remains that suggest human presence in Tomar since that time.
After the definitive conquest of the region by King Afonso Henriques in 1147, the land was donated as a fief to the Templar Order, having been border land for almost a century.
Former headquarters of the Templar Order, Tomar is a city of great charm, due to its artistic and cultural richness. The maximum exponent is in the Convent of Christ, one of the most important works of the Renaissance in Portugal and which justified its classification as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The Nabão River that runs through the city gives it even more beauty and freshness.
Continue by bus from Tomar to Ferreira do Zêzere and from there to Dornes where a boat trip on the Castelo de Bode reservoir awaits you.
In the Zêzere river basin, there is the magnificent Castelo do Bode Reservoir, with an extension of 33 km2 that includes, in the Médio Tejo region, the towns of Sertã, Vila de Rei, Ferreira do Zêzere, Sardoal, and also Abrantes and Tomar on the southern edge, where the Castelo do Bode Dam is located, one of the most important dams in our country.
Due to its grandeur and magnitude, combined with the unmissable scenic beauty that surrounds it, it is currently considered a Nautical Station par excellence, where you can practice sports such as windsurfing, sailing, rowing, motorboating and jet skiing, as well as dedicating yourself to sport fishing. (trout, largemouth bass, eels and red crayfish).
Dornes is located on a small peninsula on the edge of Zêzere River, in the municipality of Ferreira do Zêzere and is known as the “Enchanted Peninsula”.
